How To Use Distraction To Let Your Thoughts And Ideas Flow

How to use distraction to let you thoughts and ideas flow. There’s no big secret that, although my videos aren’t great, I hope they provide some value and they tend to flow along pretty easily, hopefully for you the viewer, but definitely for me the “typee”, “viewee”, “recordee”, maker, publisher or whatever.

Part of that is because I’m so focused on driving and going where I’m at that the critical faculty, that little part of your brain that says “oh my gosh, whatever you’re doing, something is not good” for this reason and that reason.

[Letting ideas flow through distraction is good because] The critical faculty is distracted by all of the logical cut-and-paste rule things it needs to follow, which gives the nice free-flowing, creative me the ability to just come on out with whatever is on my mind. Uncontrolled, unabashed and unpolished, which is pretty much the way I like to do it.

If you take the same kind of technique of occupying the logical side of your brain, you allow the creative, and usually the better, portion of your brain and your existence, to come out and just give in a way that people enjoy better the information that they want. Sure it takes some practice to get flowing, as you can see that last little bit was kind of like “but uh, but uh, but uh”, kind of not well put together. But, there is personality to it, there’s information coming out and it’s not judged as it comes along.

Quality can be a concern until you have enough practice down, but it is a way of stopping that paralysis by analysis and getting stuff done. I know a lot of people have problems with that. If you need to create content and you need to get stuff done and you need to work on your goals, it’s probably because you need to tell yourself “it’s ok”.

Part of telling yourself “ok” is shutting up that critical faculty. So shut it up, produce, and distract yourself a little bit. Focus the distraction. Purposeful distraction. That means not hanging out at the bar or whatever you kids do these days. I don’t know. I hang out with my kids. That’s my fun. And my wife. There you go, I’m done. Critical facultied out. Peace.
