How To Maintain Your Sanity With A Guilt Free Helping Of Video Games

How to maintain you sanity with a guilt free helping of video games. That’s right I said video games. I just watched an ASAPScience video that talked about video games, helping you be maintained mental health and intelligence which was nice, that’s not what my video is about, but it was nice to notice that.

But have you ever been running along and it just seems like “oh my goodness I don’t want to do anything. I’m just totally loosing it because it’s too busy, it’s too stressful. I just don’t have the motivation to do anything”? Chances are that you’re such a go getter and capable of getting things done that you’ve probably haven’t made enough time for fun. And that old saying “all fun and no play makes yadda yadda whoever a dull person”.

Well there’s a lot of truth in that and science, Hello! Dr. Neil Fiore in his book “The Now Habit” has a big section on this and he did all the research and stuff so I’ll just help translate that here. But basically you do need some level of guilt free play in your life to help recharge your system and keep you on point.

And guilt free play just means it’s you having fun but not feeling bad about it. So in our case in video games you can sit down and play for a hour or two, a day or two a week, and not feel like a total bum. Because one you’re doing a whole bunch of other stuff and two this is your recharge, this is your relaxation.

This is you getting the gumption, and the energy, and the motivation to go right back at it and do more good in the world. Now there’s moderation in everything. You know you’re limits but I don’t think you should do more than somewhere between five and ten percent of your getting work done time and your guilt free play time.

Dr. Fiore has more detail in his book and I don’t quite recall it off hand. It’s a good book if you want to read it. It’s a little academic so probably not to everyone’s liking but basically if you remember that for every three or four chucks of two to three hours worth of straight get’em done time.

You need to throw in a half hour or hour of fun in there. Whatever that is for you, do it. Video games are easy, cheap, and fun. So that’s what I’m talking about here. Add some fun in your life. Forget about the guilt. Assuming it’s a moral and good thing to do now, okay? Don’t get all funky. And recharge your productivity and motivation. Get up and go. Peace.
