If you’ve ever been in a hospital and walk down the halls, whether you’re visiting someone or you’re pushed on a gurney… hopefully, you’re just visiting someone and it wasn’t too serious…
But my point is you’re looking down that hallway and there are 20 doors to your left, 40 doors to your right, 8 different hallways going every which way, and man I tell you if you haven’t ever been down there before you really have no idea which direction to go.
Unless you’ve got someone to help you, you’ve been given a tour before, or you’ve got a map or some type of tool to assist you. Well, when you make finding your passion and purpose in life your priority number one, you get the tools that help you figure out which door is the right one.
Rethink Your Hobbies
And point number one, is well, you need to rethink your hobbies. If you got a bunch of stuff that’s really just kind of sucking up your time and occupying your mind, well you lose out and don’t really get anything done.
Some of that’s good but none of it will help you figure out how to navigate the many different pathways that are before you.
Dive Into Your Past
Number two, dive into your past. Sometimes it takes looking back on stuff you’ve done, stuff that you wanted to do but never really got around too, and the stuff that happened in your life. Oh and did you know that research has show you can actually relive your past? Freaky!
Stuff at school, at home, or at some of your previous jobs, any hobbies or extracurricular activities that you’ve done, and oh so much more. These things that make up your history can give you real clues about what you’ve been interested in but just didn’t peruse any further.
Open the Doors for Your Future
And point number three, start opening the doors for your future. If you know that 18th door on the left, down the hallway is the one you want to go through, then take it.
If it leads to your passion of doing a public speaking career or at least some type of job that has that speaking as a part of it, well, guess what? Maybe you do need to pick up a book from Dale Carnegie on how to talk to people or how to speak publicly and that’s a great idea.
Or maybe you need to get with your friends every Thursday night for 30 minutes to have a roundtable discussion practice session. Here are some great communication exercises to try out.
You know, you need to start taking steps that will lead you to that “passion door” because if you get to that door and open it up and people are waiting there with their arms open for you to be there but you’re not ready… Well, it’s just not going to work out, or at least not workout as best as it could. So, take the steps now so that you can to get ready to open that door.
