Stop Doing It Wrong: Your Anger Management 101 Class

Guess what, Mr. Angry Man? The world doesn’t have time to deal with you. Nobody enjoys your negative aspect and contributions to the world. Just because you’re having a bad day and you can’t see the light and love in everything doesn’t mean they want to hear the junk that’s spewing from your mouth. I know that, inside, you have useful information to contribute. It’s just the package that you’re wrapping it in, is not acceptable.

Stop Doing It Wrong: Your Anger Management 101 Class

“THIS hat? Seriously? Mom. I love you, but come on! Dad could do better than this… and that’s just sad.”

You are a unique snowflake, as cheesy as it sounds. But you don’t have a right to be a butt-head. This, here, is your miniature Anger Management 101 Class so you can stop doing it wrong and start doing it right.

No.1: Take a chill pill, Dude!

Sometimes, you just need to stop whatever you’re doing at this exact moment, in the middle of your anger routine, and do something else. Go somewhere else, starting talking about something else, or just change the way you’re doing things right this moment so you break that pattern. That anger pattern is something that you’ve learned to do very well. And you should be congratulated for that. It is a skill that you’ve built up. Unfortunately, it’s not entirely useful in every situation. Learn to use it in the right situation not every situation.

No. 2: Get in the habit of talking calmly

This is extremely difficult to do, especially when your emotions are going all over the place. As a matter of fact, I had a really difficult time doing it until I had children. Yelling and screaming only beats them into a corner and takes away that childlike awesome spirit. That’s not a good thing. But when you can get down on your knees, eye to eye, and talk calmly to them and work them through the issue, things immediately change for the better. Sure, it takes practice and some days are tougher than others. But having that love to love, calm, eye to eye conversation is so many more times effective, you won’t realize it until you get there.

No. 3: Look at others for clues

Have you ever noticed that most successful nurses, customer service people, and high visibility or face to face jobs require people that are extremely calm? Or maybe they’re not required to be calm, maybe it’s just part of the training and the position. They deal with people that are so upset and emotionally all over the place that their only path is to be relaxed, calm, and handle things objectively so they can work through them. Can you imagine being bugged by the craziest emotional people all day long, everyday? How could you survive except for getting a greater control of your anger? Look to these people for clues and examples that you can use.

Anger Management Has Been Managed!

These simple tips of taking a chill pill, getting in the habit of talking calm, and looking to other successful anger controlling positions can really help you to start doing it right. This short Anger Management 101 Class is here to help you be a little bit more happy and a lot more effective in your communication.
