Honestly now. Honestly. Tell me what does the life you want to live really look like? What does it look like? That’s a tough one. Now you may be sitting pretty where you’re at but chances are there’s some goal or something you want done in life. Right?

Now, I’ve come up with something similar in my own words but it wasn’t until I found the foolish adventure podcast that I had it put together nice and succinctly by Mr. Tim Conley. When he said that the main reason we do things, pretty much in some form or fashion, boils down to TIM. No, not his name. Although that was probably a little bit of cleverness there. TIM being time, income, and mobility. The triumvirate. Triumvirate, triad, trifecta, try to get it because it will make you more fulfilled in your life.
When you revolve your goals around increasing the control over the time that you have. If that means working more for you, great. That means working less for you, great. If that means any number of ways that you can put time to better use as you see fit, that’s great.
Income – more of it. Probably the more the better, depending on where you’re standing. But not everybody wants to be a quadrobahillionare. But it’s pretty certain that at least in a developed country you probably don’t want to be below the poverty line. Now this is a totally opinionated thing, but usually it’s the more the merrier for time, income, and mobility.
Whereas mobility is the freedom to move. The freedom to do. The freedom to not be tied down to a desk, a cube, a house that you don’t want, to a specific location. That doesn’t mean you’ve got to keep moving and being some digital nomad, backpack Birkenstock, thick black rimmed or white rimmed glass wearing kind of person. It just means, hey you want to take a vacation for three months to Honduras or Tahiti or Fiji or whatever? You can do it! No problem. The money will still come in. You’ll be in control of how much time you put towards what you do, etc.
So when you imagine what you want – the life you really want to live – to look like. It probably revolves around increasing one of those three aspects – time, income, mobility. Even if you’re perfectly happy living the cube life with your family, working 60 hours a week or just a bit above. Or you need to pay the bills. That is absolutely fine and commendable. If you’ve got goals it’s probably safest to revolve them around the TIM. And if you look at your goals and dive down deep enough, they probably already do.
There we go. Uh oh, here comes a bunch of ice trucks. The freeze is on and this video is over. Work on your TIM, work on your goals, and start working on the life you want to live already.
