You probably played Candy Crush or Angry Birds or use Facebook regularly, and I’m pretty sure if you didn’t have those apps on your phone you’d probably do something else. Whether or not that’s something productive, who’s to say, but I know that when I tried out 80 of those latest and greatest social apps or games or similar type of less-than-productive apps on the phone, I was completely engrossed, and a couple hours later didn’t know what happened to my life. I kind of wanted it back.

The only thing that worked for me besides uninstalling, because I know a lot of people don’t want to do that. There are times where it’s nice for ten minutes to bust it out and get a couple levels done or get a couple updates, and I get that, but the number one thing that helped me was to not have a shortcut on the home screen. Basically, not make it easy just to unlock my phone and press the button.
I know it doesn’t sound like much, but as we’re a society of instant gratification and get right to the fun and get it done, having that shortcut right there on the home screen so easily available is one of the biggest enabling and motivating factors of getting in there and getting started, and once you’re started, you’re pretty much screwed.
Make it a little bit more difficult. Maybe hide the app on a Favorites tab, in the app drawer, or keep it in an app drawer off of your home screen away or hidden in some fashion.
It’s that extra two or three steps that with time will make it just a little bit harder to open up and a little bit less motivating to get in there and waste some time.
If you’re looking for a couple tips, give that a shot. If it’s still not worth it, working, and you want to get a little bit more time back in your life, you just have to uninstall it. Sorry about that.
You could do something like make videos instead in your free time on the way home and whatnot, or while your out and about on calls. Just saying. All right, good luck. Get your time back. Get your life. Have a good one. Bye-bye.
