How do you know the truly unknown, that which is so close to you and so integral to you, that it is you. Where do you begin? It seems like this big cloudy thought that has no clear direction or focus, so where do you start? It’s the age old question that philosophers, the religious and leaders of thought have been asking all throughout time. So what can I say, being just the little nobody that I am? Well, from what I’ve found so far, there are a couple of things you can do to help at least guide your path to self discovery. They revolve around a couple of things.

One: discovering how you like to learn, what your personality is like, what you’re really good at and what you’re passionate about changing or adding to the world. Some of those are pretty easy, like personality. Got a couple of tests on the website, you can do them in 10 minutes, no problem. Strengths, same kind of thing. Get pretty detailed information on where to proceed. Now when it comes to motivations or what really gets you going in life, there are tests and quizzes that even I have available and that are available on other websites.
But those are the kinds of things where it might be best to sit down with a piece of paper and go through what you’ve done and what you’ve enjoyed in life, and even the things you haven’t enjoyed. Find what the common denominator is between all of them and figure out, “Why? Why is this set of four or five different characteristics or processes something that I really enjoy and that clicks with me?”
Sure, it’s probably not going to pop up in your mind right away, but once you plant that seed, you’ve got tools. Your unconscious mind, your experiences and the way it all works together will eventually bring something to light. I know that sounds wishy-washy and you’re thinking, “Oh gee, thanks for that help Mr. Man,” but that’s really what it boils down to.
It’s just like when you focus on a really hard problem in your life and do nothing but try to solve that problem actively for hours on end – it’s only when you set it down and come back the next day fresh and anew, without even thinking about it a seemingly good answer pops up out of nowhere, or at least it seems like ti does. It’s the same kind of thing here. Do the work to plant the seed and then just let it grow and wait for until a fruit is bear and falls down and you can pick it up and take a nice juicy bite, see what it has to say to you.
But knowing yourself does require you to do a little bit of work, a little bit of brainstorming, maybe a little bit of guided thinking through some tests, and then you start to get a picture of what you look like from the outside, but what really matters is on the inside and only truly you can know that. Use that external information to help guide the way you think about yourself and then start to use it to make the change and the value in the world that you want. That’s the path that seems most relevant and has worked for me and has eased some of those most difficult questions that I have in life that can’t be answered by family, history, religion or the likes.
There are plenty of great sources of information that come from those paths, but some of it does require your dedicated effort and work to brainstorm and come to some conclusions. Give it a shot. I’ll link to the test that I have available down here in the description, and good luck. Hopefully you find something that is surprising and useful in your life and get a little bit more clear on the “who” that is “you,” my friend.
