How to Handle Email When People Ask For Permission to Link to Your Stuff. I can’t say that I quite understand this one because it’s the internet, but I get emails every so often that say, “Hey, I want to link to this thing on my blog or in my product, do you mind if I include a link to your website?” I see that as asking someone if you can use my name in a conversation. I’m no celebrity and I’m not well known so it’s a non-issue as far as I’m concerned.

If you want to link to my site, by all means. If you have a reputable site, go for it. What’s to even ask about? Maybe there’s something that I don’t understand about this that I’m not seeing or I’ve embraced the internet so much that I’m not too worried about where you put links to my site or what not. I’d pretty much give carte blanche approval for links. That’s okay.
Maybe it’s a smart way of getting in contact with people and opening up that pathway to communication and that’s what they’re really trying to do. In which case, yeah, that might not be a bad idea. But when you get requests for permission to link, just reply back, “Maybe.”
Ask what site they want to link to if you really want to know and make sure that it’s a place that you want to be represented. Maybe you want to create a relationship there or communication, then that’s fine. Otherwise, it’s probably good to reply back real quickly and say, “Sure, that’d be great.” Very simple, very easy and a quick email to handle.
