We all want a little more success out of life, right? But what are we really doing to get to a point where we can say we’ve achieved something of note? That success may only be a few strengths and weaknesses away from being realized. Remove the obstacles that stand in your way and use the aptitudes that work best for you and you will realize the same.
I took a survey of several hundred people over the topic of professional and personal aptitudes related to several different topics. The results are at the same time sobering, challenging, and enlightening. Below is one of the questions I asked them and is followed by the unfiltered results.
Question:
How could using your personal strengths at work help you succeed? Why?
Answers:
- Using your strengths could get you that promotion you’ve been wanting. If you show that you are the best at the task at hand, stand up and show them. It could also open doors for other opportunities and strengths you didn’t know about.
- My personal strengths would help me succeed at work by allowing me to complete my work in a quick manner while maintaining accuracy, therefore making me an efficient worker. What makes me a successful worker is that I can do my work quickly, but I have a great deal of attention to detail.
- I could use them to enrich my environment around me. Using my personal skills at work will help me maintain a clean and healthy work environment.
- For me, my personal strengths are a way to differentiate myself from my co-workers. I am very attentive to detail and always put my all into every project. Because of this I am the person that gets chosen when something needs to be done at a higher level. It’s always like this at every job I’ve had so I say its a testament that focusing on your strengths puts your best side forward and gets you noticed.
- If you are skilled at communication you can help manage stressful situations. If you have a customer that is angry with the service they have received your ability to communicate with that person and hear them out can make their experience more positive. Sometimes it is a lack of communication that causes people to be upset in the first place so if you communicate well you can prevent issues from arising.
- Your personal strengths are going to be the foundation of your professional strengths. In that regard, its important to cling to what makes you a powerful person and make it shine at work where you’re compensated for being you. Showing people the bright sides of your personality and who you are is going to make others want to be around you. In some cases within the work place it will also encourage others to be like you which will make you feel great. The more positive power you bring within yourself and out to your work environment, the more positive reward you will receive.
- your personal strengths can help you help others, as well as be more efficient in the workplace. Personal strengths determine how others see you, and how likely they are to trust you with more work, and even a promotion.
- It is always good to use your own personal strengths at work. As economics shows, the reason there is trade is that some countries can produce goods more cheaply and efficiently than other countries. It is the same with special strengths in the work scenario. If you have a strength in something, use it and the whole company will succeed more and be more efficient. You might even get a raise!
- I could use my personal strengths at work in order to get a promotion. For example, I’m really strong-willed, and I persevere until I’ve finished whatever it is that I’m focusing on. I could use this strength of mine to help me focus on specific tasks at work. In completing tasks more precisely and completely than my co-workers, I am more likely to stand out to my superiors as a worker who gets things done, which is a positive thing. Being noticed by my superiors could lead to me being promoted more quickly than if I hadn’t used my perseverance to my advantage. The faster I move up in the company, the more quickly I’ll be considered successful.
- My main strength is calm. Being able to stay calm under any situations will not only impress superiors, but make work able to be done better, even under hectic conditions.
- Using my personal strengths at work could help me succeed by being promoted. Another way is by making my boss happy/proud of me. One more way is to have my boss put me in a higher place of business.
- I could find ways to use my skills as a writer, or even my excellent typing skills. I feel like my abilities could leverage me into a higher position, or perhaps into more responsibility/compensation. Right now my job is not utilizing those strengths that I have.
- As a teacher, I rely on many personal strengths to connect with my students. I need to use my enthusiasm for the subject I teach — psychology — to make my students enjoy the subject as well. I need to communicate warmth and fairness to them as well and rely on my personality to do so. Without having these qualities at hand, I don’t believe I would be an effective teacher at all.
- My job is in a field that has many qualified people working in it and one of the most challenging aspects of trying to advance is having to stand out and distinguish yourself. As a result of this, many of the people who do manage this successfully do so by playing very strongly to their individual strengths and giving the way they do business a very distinct personality that helps them stand out.
- I have above average communication skills, which I think I could put to good use training others. I also enjoy being in the role of instructor, and take great interest in the success of anyone I have been asked to train: it is not only important for them to do well, it is a reflection on my own ability.
