Back in the days, I was a chunky little nerd in middle school. I got picked on, I got made fun of, and I got pushed around. And I don’t think I deserved it. Looking back on it now, I can say, “Yeah, that really did kind of hurt,” and I wish I had these three super easy tips to increase my self-esteem back then. You can do the same now and even take care of some of your past and gain self-esteem very quickly if you’ll practice these too. Here it goes.
1. Get Away From The Negative Nellies
You know the people I’m talking about here, the ones at work that always have something to complain about and no matter what they do it just seems like the whole world is coming down on them. Why do you even hang around them? Sure, they’re some entertainment value every once in a while, but, really, do you need that extra burden on your mind and workload? I don’t think so.
And you’ve also got other people at functions you go to, groups you’re in, or even out in public. If there are situations that put you constantly in contact with people that just suck the positivity out of your life, you got to get away from it. Stay away from them and then you’ll start off having a better base for building your self-esteem.
2. Pay Attention To The Names You Call Yourself
Do you really believe that you can’t get anything done? That you’re stupid? That you’re ineffective and that you’ll never amount to anything? Do you believe those really horrible things? Are they actually true? What about them is so true that you believe them? How are those labels and thoughts so strong in your mind that you’ll just say them, believe them and go about your day as if there’s nothing wrong with that?
What if some stranger came up and said that to you? You’ll probably immediately blow it off or punch him in the face. Well, you need to knock those thoughts out of your head too.
3. Do Unto Others Already
If you already don’t have some type of routine where you set yourself up for giving a little bit of your love and friendliness away to others, then now is the time. This can be as simple as a smile, or helping someone else out with tasks at work or at home. When you set yourself up to continually give from the extra energy and positivity that you have, you are actually rewarding yourself in the process by building that habit of doing positive and useful things.
I know you don’t usually have that in mind when you’re helping out other people, but this is the highest form of love where you’re actually loving other people to help yourself grow, to help more people grow. It’s a very wonderful thing.
Bring These Easy Tips to Life
For some super quick and easy tips on building your self-esteem any time you want, remember these things: you got to get away from the negative nellies out there, you got to pay attention and stop calling yourself names, and go ahead and start doing nice things to other people already. These are just a couple tips that’ll help you erase that fat nerdy history and rewrite it with one that’s more successful, positive, and in line with your future goals.
