I remember the first time I decided it was time to upload a video to YouTube. And this wasn’t just any video. This was a video of me trying to get across a life mission of mine. Wow! I want to tell you: not only was it a disaster. It was really just… it’s plain embarrassing.
I still like the message. And I still like that I had the gumption to get up there and do it. And it’s still up right now. But I want to tell you that was a really big step in overcoming my fear of failure: when I just decided to hit record, edit it and upload without thinking about it.
Yeah, sure, it doesn’t look very polished. But I did it, I got it out there, and I’ve gotten a lot better since. I gained the confidence and the gumption to get more by taking that first step and overcoming the fear of failure. And here are a couple ways you can do the same:
1. Re-frame the Way You Work
If what you’re doing is scary or you’re not sure what the outcome will be, I can understand how that can be scary and cause you a little extra fear. But if you re-frame the work you do and what you get out of it to not be something that sets you up for failure, but instead something that sets you up for the opportunity to learn, experiment, and experience then I think you’ll find some good use out of that.
You’ll begin to look for ways to understand how the choices you make can influence your life, instead of just beating yourself up over making a “failure”.
2. Figure Out the Most Probable Outcomes
Once you’re actually trying many different ways to get things done instead of just stopping before you do anything, you begin to see that there are infinite possibilities available to you. You also get to see what works and what doesn’t work at a microscopic level so you can control what happens at a macroscopic level.
You begin to see patterns and realize how the world works and you can become more efficient and more focused in your efforts. And the fear of failure just won’t even be a reality anymore.
3. Figure Out What You’ll Do
After you’ve overcome all the based level reasons for succumbing to the fear of failure you’re more confident and powerful at what you can get done. You begin to see what works for you, what doesn’t work for you, and how this world actually operates. You can use tools and resources and your understanding of your experience to make life start working for you. This level of understanding gives you direct confidence in working with the world and changing it for what works best.
Beat The Fear of Failure Now
The fear of failure can be tough and it stops most people with that horrible thing called Analysis Paralysis. And three ways you can get over it is by Re-framing the Way You Work, Figuring Out the Most Probable Outcomes and Figuring Out What You Can Actually Do. Go these routes, start being more brave and it’s time to be confident as you champion this world.
