You know those kids these days? The ones that are just moping around, trying to be all unique and whatever? Wearing the trendiest clothes now and saying how they’re going to save the world and set the world on fire with their unique personality and their new approach to getting things done?
I absolutely commend their spirit and they’re on the right track. But, if you have enough people claiming to be the same group of unique people, you’ve just made another group of people that just aren’t as unique as they think they are. I understand, they’re trying to just be themselves and take on this persona of doing good in the world.
However, they need to get away from that end product that’s become another label and focus on the motivation, drive, and real perspective to get changes that make a difference in the world. Here’s three of the biggest reasons why just focusing on that end label just won’t work.
Number 1: The World Will Not Cater To You
I know you see the news and it seems like 45, 50 percent of the people out there really care about your organic cotton shorts, but I want to let you know, that that’s more like 0.0005 percent of the people out there that actually care. There’s a perspective that’s set up for people to believe and to undertake themselves that just might not be the reality.
The world’s not going to cater to the littlest of individual wants and needs. It’s going to do what works best for the majority. You can have your individual personality and uniqueness, flavor, and pepper the rest of your life and those around you. But don’t expect everyone else to change just because you think they should.
Number 2: You’d Like To Expect More
It can be nice to attach to the idea of changing the world overnight and making everything 50 percent better. These are expectations that I think we could all attach to, in helping people out. Getting rid of poverty and crime and making the world an overall better place to live in. However, just because you had these expectations doesn’t mean that they’re going to be achieved.
And sometimes setting yourself up to expect these wonderful goals can negatively impact you and your motivation when they aren’t achieved. I’m not saying aim low, but I’m saying make sure you don’t aim too high and are so attached to the unique qualities of yourself that you can’t see the reality of getting things done with the resources you have available today.
Number 3: The Real Problem, Is You Lack Motivation
It can be easy to attach to a label, to a way of doing things, and a mindset that you’ve come across and like more than the others. Sometimes this can be dangerous, as it’s a pitfall for not thinking more. These labels and these ways of getting things done are really just mental and daily shortcuts to having to put in your own effort, creativity, and motivation into getting things done. Make sure that whatever you’re doing is because you truly believe it and that you’re trying to work with what’s available out there and not just attaching to these mental shortcuts.
Be Yourself And A Little More
You can always be the wonderful and unique snowflake that you are, and I say that with absolute sincerity. I applaud the ability to hang on to your inner creativity and child for as long as you can. There are far too many boring people out there nowadays.
However, you need to understand that it’s not enough, because the world will not cater to you. You won’t always get the highest of your expectations and there are roadblocks that can hurt your motivation in the long run. Take these things in mind, continue to do the good that you do and I look forward to being in the new world with you.
