Are you at work and getting bogged down by not getting enough stuff done? You have project upon project piling up on your desk and the last empty corner you have over there on the far left. I’ve been there. I’ve done it. It’s no fun. But, sometimes it’s the reality.
You need to get stuff done and you need to get it done so you can move onto the next level. At the end of the day, your company wants value out of you and you want value out of your work. Let’s go to get you past those impossible goals and give you four motivational missions that you need to try to get over these humps.
1) Look Around You And Change If Needed
Is there something around you that’s causing this frustration and making your goal impossible? This could be people that are just negative nellies and just pains in your butts. This could be the environment that you’re sitting in.
I know when I spend a lot of time in a cube, I really do appreciate a lower light setting, a nice chair, an ergonomic everything. If you have to do things for any huge chunks of time at a time, every little bit needs to be in order and right. It does make a difference.
2) Remind Yourself Of Past Goals That You’ve Achieved
Surely you’ve done something at work meaningful, useful, and that added little warm feeling inside. Think about that. Write it down on an index card. Give it a funny name. Give it a very memorable label that you can call up any time you want. Relive those feelings.
Put that happiness, the joy, the accomplishment and the recognition back into your body. Touch your head, touch your heart, say that label again. Do it 5-10 more times. I know it’s silly, but it’s a neurological thing. Create that state where you can always go back to that encouraging happy place.
3) Ask People For Help If You Need To
For anyone who is an introvert or gets a really big kick out of accomplishing things all by themselves, this can be tough. But guess what? Companies are awesome because there’s a whole bunch of people working together. You have a vast array of resources right at your fingertips if you’ll seek them.
If you have a problem, email someone that you’re familiar with and ask them, “Hey! What’re your ideas on this?” If you’re feeling a little too shy about that and you’re afraid of what other people will think of you, well, then why don’t you go to someone that you’ve only met once? Or that’s a stranger or that’s all the way on the other side of the building?
Chances are they’ll probably be really willing to help and if they think silly of you, well guess what? Who cares! They’re not a part of your regular day anyway. It’s worth a shot.
4) Raise Money – Some Goals Just Need It
I spend a lot of time doing safety committees at one of the corporate jobs I was at. There was just no bones about it. Sometimes we’d have projects that, sure, we can pony up money out of our own pocket, but why would we? A significant a chunk of capital was required to do what we wanted to do at the level we wanted to do it.
And a lot of people were getting down about it. So we said, “Why don’t we raise the money and this won’t be a problem anymore!” That was an immediate boost to everyone’s confidence, motivation, and moral. Sometimes money does it.
Mission No Longer Impossible
Forget about impossible goals. Nothing is impossible when you have the motivational drive to jump over those humps and get stuff done. The tips you just went through will help you stay on top and achieve those goals. Be sure you look around and change if you need.
Remind yourself of past goals to keep that happy state. Ask people for help and hey, raise money if you need it. These great tips should be a boost that you can use as soon as possible. Get on up out there.
