I wish more people had this problem in life, right? You have five awesome job offers on your plate and your just not sure which one to pick. Granted I know this is for a very small amount of people out there but it is a problem.
This is especially true if you’re just blasting out resume’s and feelers for a whole bunch of positions at one time, especially if you’re working with multiple recruiters. Granted you shouldn’t be working with more than one recruiter at one time just to be professionally relevant and respectful. However these things happen and it’s happened to me before.
There was one point and time in my life where I had three very awesome positions available and I had basically a couple of days to make life changing decisions and it was tough. However you keep these four proven ways that I’m about to tell you in mind, this decision just won’t be as tough for you anymore, and you’ll be able to appreciate the fact that a lot of people want you for their company.
(1) Aim For The Greatest Compensation
I know it’s a no-brainer but this doesn’t just mean the annual salary you see. This means the salary, plus the 401K , plus the matching, plus the vacation, plus the sick time, plus the paid time off, plus any other benefits or bonuses you get, and the overall value package that’s presented to you.
If you’re not able to put all of those numbers together and have a sum total that gives you an idea of how you will be compensated, then you just don’t have a clear picture of which one is the best choice for you. Do that for all the positions available and pick the one that checks off the most compensation checks for you, and the decision gets a lot easier.
(2) Aim For The Greatest Mobility
Sometimes it just may be completely similar all across the board, or not enough variation to make it a clear decision. Well you could look towards which position give you the most mobility. What do I mean?
I mean the one that allows telecommuting, the one that allows traveling if that’s important to you, or the one that allows flexibility in your schedule. This freedom of movement and ability to get work done wherever you want, is a huge benefit and can be a great deciding factor when it comes to multiple offers.
(3) Aim For The Most Time
If you know for a fact that one of the positions is going to require overtime, or weekend work, or on call work, that might not be what you’re looking for. If there is one that is comprehensible in every other way but pretty much guarantee’s a 40 hour work week and that’s what you’re looking for, it’s a no-brainer. Again this is just a quality, you need to understand for all positions available and pick the one that matches your interest’s best.
(4) Aim For The Most Value
You’ve got your compensation in mind, you’ve got your mobility in mind, you’ve got your time in mind, now it’s time to put all this together and discover the hidden parts that make up the complete value of this position to you. You use that to pick the best one. These could be the opportunities that are presented to you by each particular position.
For instance, if you know you want own your own business in a five to ten year time frame, well maybe you want to pick the job that exposes you to business development, direct sales, or marketing. So pick the position that’s going to build your skills up to that point and your gaining permanent assets that are preparing you for your ultimate goal. Sometimes this can be the deciding factor for ultimate value to you when choosing the right job.
Turn Multiple Offers Into Pure Gold
If you’re lucky enough to have multiple, awesome offers on your plate. Count yourself blessed but I understand you have a very difficult decision ahead.
