While I believe I’ve become happier and a much better person here recently, I know I have a long way to go. And no matter where I look, I see people that are happier than me.
Now I try my very best not to be jealous, but I do understand that an internal “want” to be as happy as other people is not necessarily a bad thing. I have for you here five time-tested secrets to help you live a more happy life, and to stop being jealous of the happy people out there. You can start living life the way they do: to be happier, to give and to go to the places using the methods that work best for you. The point here is to not copy other people, the point here is to figure out what works, and incorporate it into your life
1. Be Grateful For The Kindness Of Others
If you get a gift, be happy and say thanks. Whether this is an actual present, or just a smile or hello, these little actions actually required real work, effort and decisions on the part of other people, and you need to appreciate that.
2. Give Smiles Freely And Randomly
You may only get one return smile out of twenty that you give freely and randomly, but when you start associating your smiles and outward happiness with contributing to the world, you’ll begin to see the benefit. Don’t look for the reward, just look for giving, and giving freely.
3. Remember Chivalry And Respect
I don’t know why I have to say this nowadays, but if there are kids around, don’t use foul language. Don’t be loud, don’t be scary, and just be a good, upstanding citizen. If you’re walking out the door, open the door for the person behind you – don’t just slam it shut. If you’re in a waiting area, or on transportation, give your seat up for an elderly person or a woman, or a small child that looks tired. You don’t need the seat. There are little things that you can do to make the world a better place, a little bit at a time.
4. Have Slippery Skin, Not Thick Skin
The point isn’t to absorb all of the negativity and bad stuff that’s thrown at you. The point is to let it come your way, but know how to let it just keep on going, let it slide off of you, and not affect who you are. If you absorb it, it becomes part of you; if you let it slip by, it doesn’t affect you.
5. Be Patient And Try To Help
Not everyone else in the world has as much figured out as you do. They may need understanding that is at a level that seems kind of silly to you. Forget your opinion on the information that they need, and just focus on patiently helping.
Own The Secrets to Happiness
These five time-tested secrets will contribute to your living an ultimately happy life. When you’re grateful for the kindness of others, you give back gratefully.
