The start of the day primes our activities and sets the rest of the day in stone. If you wake up angry, it’s pretty certain that the rest of your morning, and maybe the rest of your day, is going to have an angry tone to it.
If you wake up the first thing after bashing the alarm, and decide to be happy and say “good morning” before all other things, you’ll be off to the right start. Sure, that doesn’t guarantee happiness and success for the rest of the day but it sure gets you started on the right path.
Sometimes our daily routine set us up to being in a bad mood and unhappy. It’s time to bust your daily routine and take these five steps to head towards the direction of real happiness, so you can be in control of how your day starts, and continues:
1. Wake Up Naturally
If you have a job that allows you to come in on a flex starting time, or you start late, then this could be a very possible solution for you, or at least addition to your happiness routine, and that’s to wake up naturally.
Don’t turn on the alarms. Don’t have any blaring clacks and noises to burst you out of your sleep. Go to bed at a reasonable time and plan for 6, 7 or 8 hours later, being aligned with when you need to start getting ready, and just let your body wake up.
It might take a week or two or three to get in the groove of things but once you get started on this path, you’ll wonder why you ever used an alarm.
2. Wake Up Artificially, But Better
You can mimic this kind of waking up naturally routine by using alarms that move away from the very loud noise to scare you out of sleep.
For instance, I use an app “Alarm Clock” that allows me to set whatever nice message or music I want, and start out at a very, very low volume and slowly, over the course of the next 6 minutes to 10 minutes, increase volume so that I am not busted out of sleep but am slowly eased out of sleep to where my mind decides “Oh hey, I need to pay attention to this,” and it works out quite nicely.
3. Start A 10-Minute Exercise Routine
That’s it – just 10 minutes! Surely you can find 10 minutes in your routine and day somewhere, especially if you’re an early riser and you’re able to just run into the garage, jump on the gazelle or treadmill, put your 10 minutes in and then jump right in the shower. That’s the best time to do it and 10 minutes if very doable.
4. Say “Good Morning” Before Everything Else
Don’t talk about the toilet paper that’s empty, the toilet seat that’s up, or the socks that are on the floor. The first thing you need to say in the morning is “Good Morning”.
Maybe even “It’s nice to see you” and “I love you”, depending on who you’re talking to, of course. Maybe not your co-workers but “Good Morning” and a smile, as hard as it may sounds, it’s a great way to set the tone for the rest of the day.
5. Reflect, Pray, And Plan Ahead
You need to have a regular time to where you can focus on your creator, God, who puts you here for a greater purpose to do his will. When you align yourself with the word and the guidance that he has given you, and you trust in all of the graces that he has given you, the rest of your day has no chance but to succeed. Make time to pray and plan ahead.
Your Routine, Super Charged
Your daily routine maybe sapping your life away and causing you to be more unhappy than you need to be. Plan to be happy by taking these five steps of, waking up naturally or artificially, but better; starting a 10-minute exercise routine; saying “Good Morning” and; reflecting on your purpose for being here. Do these things and you’ll be well into a world of greater happiness for your life.
