You know, being dull, boring and grumpy sucks. Everyone has at least one of those types of people at their work. If you see that person in the break room? You turn around, and you go back to your cube. If you see that person pull up to the stall next to you in the bathroom? Then you want to hurry up and scurry on out, because the last thing you want to do is talk.
Negative begets negative. It’s like a poison that eaves, oozes through the company, and it’s just no fun. Sure, they may be great people, but sometimes we just don’t want that negativity. So let’s make the world a better place, and make your workplace work better with these five ways to make your life shine. Let’s be happy on purpose.
1) Don’t Let Negative Thoughts Take Over
If you have one of these negative Nelly thoughts pop up in your mind, you have to stop it. You have to stop it and replace it. You can’t just stop a thought in your head, and not replace it with something else that’s useful, because it’ll just come back.
So the next time you have something funky pop up in your head, immediately say, “Delete, delete” or “Cancel, cancel.” These little gimmicky funky tricks will help you stop, and replace that negative thought with whatever you want.
2) Be Helpful To Yourself And Others
If you’ve got a little bit of downtime, it’s time for you to go cube knocking. It’s time for you to go around, and see if anyone else can use a little bit of help. Now, don’t look for the really detailed stuff that’s going to require a lot of explanation, because a lot of times people don’t have time for that.
They want to be able to offload probably the crappiest job they can to you. Be prepared for that, and be willing to say yes. People need help, and you can really make life shine by helping out.
3) Wake Up With A Smile Every Morning
So tough to do, I know it is. Well, get that first one or two thoughts out of your mind, realize that, Yes, you do have to get up and go do stuff. And then, BAAM! Put that smile up on there.
Look at yourself in the mirror, and say, “You know what, I like that smile. That’s a good smile.” You’ve got a spouse? Smile at them. You’ve got kids, smile at them. The first thing you do in the morning, tents the entire day with that attitude and feeling. Show your love and smile.
4) Pick Out Useful Affirmations
Don’t go around saying, “Ah, yes I’m just a beautiful and lovely, unique, snowflake.” That probably won’t help you too much. If that works for you; makes you feel better? That’s great. However, you could have more useful affirmations mean a lot more in your life. For instance, you could say something like, “Yes, I do confidently approach new conversations, and relationships with great motivation and interest.”
Make it catchier of course, but you can actually repeat these useful phrases to yourself, to get in the way of all those funky thoughts that might pop into your head. And hey, if you believe it and keep trying to do it, it will come true.
5) Don’t Let Anyone Or Anything Bring You Down
It’s time for you to jump on that happy float, and make your own parade of awesome. Your life is meant to shine and ultimately, you are the one in control. If someone’s gossiping and talking funkiness about you, just put the hair right up there and say, “Eh, I don’t have time for you today or ever, as a matter of fact.
Let them know, that if they want to talk about work, and do things the right way, we can do that. But if they want to talk about funkiness, we can’t do that. You don’t have time, and life is valuable.
Your Purpose is More Purposeful When Happy
Your life is meant to be happy, and it can be done so on purpose. You’re in control. It’s a skill you need to grow, but you can do it. Make your life shine by not letting the negative thoughts take over.
Be helpful to yourself and others. Wake up with a smile. Pick out useful affirmations, and don’t let anyone or anything bring you down. It’s time to make this world a gigantic, smiling town of awesomeness. Start with yourself.
