Difficulty in creating new ideas can be frustrating at times and I have been REALLY struggling with this type of task in the recent past. I know I should probably just consult with existing materials and used some good old tried and true method, but something struck me as interesting one day when I was learning about chunks and general linguistic-y type goodness.
All things have some form of category, audience, or specific purpose involved / related with them. It is these over-reaching (and sometimes subordinate) topics that can be used to find other ideas in similar or related fields or areas. I’ve found this method of “chunking around” very useful is getting around other problems or roadblocks in my life so why the heck not with ideation / generation?
So I give to you: Chunk-Around Brainstorming (CAB) – a (hopefully) new brainstorming method. :)
I’d say it’s nowhere near as effective as the SCAMPER method, or like kind, but sometimes just trying a different or new approach is all it takes to spark that inner fire. I almost invariably come up with duplicate items and/or some blank squares, but I guess that just means I didn’t try hard enough.
I’m sure you’ll have better luck so give it a shot and let it flow!
