I know what it’s like to sit behind a keyboard in a cube in a very uncomfortable chair. Sometimes you just have to put your head down on the desk, bang it a few times, and wonder, “Is this what life’s all about?” Yes, it’s true sometimes a tear is shed, but it’s all for the sake of determining whether or not what you’re doing is useful or purposeful.
Here I have for you a couple things that will help determine whether or not your life is really destined for a routine job or the dream job that you’re seeking. You need to realize your full potential and grow to the person you were born to be. Cheesy, I understand, but guess what? Cheese is good! Let’s talk about these now.
1) Think Positive, Negative Will Get You Nowhere
I won’t bore you to death with all the psychological science behind all this but it boils down to if you think negative you immediately take the whole world to negative. Well, do the opposite!
Take the world to useful positive phrases and thinking will help you see things in a better light. I’m not talking about the wishy-washy stuff you’ve seen from the 80’s. I’m talking about stuff that makes sense to you and that is legitimately and usefully positive to you and your life.
2) Find Challenges Within The Job
Yes, I know your job is routine I don’t care if you’re a rocket scientist your job is at some point going to have at some point for the majority of the day be filled with routine tasks. That’s just the way the world works.
Unless you’re your own boss, or working for an ultra-adaptive entrepreneurial company, your job is going to suck sometimes. Look for opportunities and challenges that pop up during the day and figure out if you have a brand new way to fix them approach them or bring them to life. Look for opportunities to shine.
3) Network With Friends, Family And Coworkers
Now you shouldn’t be doing too much social stuff while you’re at work but, if you’re able to send out an email every once and a while or call on your smoke break. Now, I know you don’t smoke but that 15 minutes where you’re kind of chit-chatting in the break room or whatever use that time to branch out, use that time to get a feel for what’s going on and where everyone else is you really are most like the five people that are around you the most often. Find the people that inspire you the most and help boost you up in your career development and hang around them.
4) Work Hard As It Will Get Noticed By Others
Whether or not you are motivated and recognized externally or internally, working hard is important. If you require some kind of external recognition it’s extremely important for you that no matter what happens you just keep on chugging’ along. Work hard, keep putting in the effort, and no matter how tough the day is just keep going. Eventually it will get noticed; eventually it will add to your life and be worthwhile. You can do it, keep on up and up.
5) Keep An Eye Out For Opportunities
This is opportunities in every facet of life. This is while you’re walking around in the grocery store, this is while you’re driving home, and this is while you’re at the library trying to find the perfect book for the weekend. (People still do that right?) This is you trying to find where there are problems that need to be solved and things that need to be optimized. Keep curious, and keep looking.
Go Get That Dream Job of Yours
Forget about routine jobs, forget about the junk that fills your life that doesn’t add value. It’s time to make life and value. You really can have the dream job that you always wanted, even if you stay at the same place! Start thinking positive, start finding challenges, start networking with people that matter the most, always work hard and keep an eye out for opportunities all over the place. This mindset change will guarantee that your job, and everything that you do is worthwhile.
