There are only two things that no business or business owner should ever outsource. Number one: bodily functions and number two: strategic decisions. If you own a company and you’re considering outsourcing any of your strategy, whether that’s marketing or the decision process, then you really need to begin to understand the importance of what your responsibility is and realign your motivation toward growing your business. Here are a couple of points to consider.
Only You Are Responsible
At the end of the day, you are the one that makes decisions. No one else is responsible for the inputs and the outputs that go into your business. If you’ve become accustomed to blaming others for outcomes and taking credit for all of the inputs, you’re way off track.
Growing your business is all about taking responsibility to for every action that’s involved, whether it’s growth or failure. You are the only one that’s responsible and you need to own up to all decisions and strategy that takes place in your business.
Only You Understand Best
There’s no person in your company that understands the inner workings of your business better than you. You were probably there from the beginning. You were probably involved with all of the decisions that happened along the way.
And you were probably involved with the things that didn’t make it to the public level of understanding. You have a greater and broader picture of everything that’s important to your business and effective growth. Anyone else out there is going to make a decision that does not factor in these bits of information and that’s dangerous.
Only You Care The Most
Sure, people that are getting paid by you obviously care enough about the work that they do and the decisions that they make to keep getting those paychecks. However, chances are, your motivation goes beyond just the compensation you receive. Your motivation goes toward making the world a better place, growing your business, and doing things that actually matter in the world.
Not everyone thinks this way and especially about companies that they don’t own. You care the most about what comes into your company and what goes out of it. Outsourcing anything having to do with strategy and decisions is not going to be made with the greatest care in mind.
Keep Your Decisions to Yourself
If you’re actually considering outsourcing the decision process for your business, I highly recommend you reconsider that idea. You’re the only one responsible for things that happen. You’re the only one that understands your company best and you’re the only one that cares the most about what happens to your business.
Please relax and put your extra time into resources that are available to your company and do what it takes to keep your focus on the strategy. Outsource the other stuff, keep the strategy and decision to yourself.
