New Trends In Leadership Development That Will Change Your Life

Yes, I do plan to take over the world. Thank you for asking.

Many people think that social media outlets are the only trendy thing happening in the business world. While they are, there are other things that are trending as well. Management procedures and control styles have developments, too.

Experts are constantly coming up with new and more innovative strategies of how to manage their employees. As others see what works and what doesn’t, trends in leadership development tend to evolve. So what are the trends for the years to come? Here are a few things to keep in mind.

You Must Be Flexible

A member of management must be able to initiate change. People will look to their superiors for guidance. They also look at them as their example. If a manager won’t get their hands dirty and is always sitting around talking, the employees will either follow suite or have no respect. A manager should always be willing to jump in and help out in a crunch. Whether it is a fast food chain or a warehouse, employees respect authority that doesn’t treat them like another number but a human being.

The unemployment rates are all over the board and constantly going up and down. It may seem advantageous to cut a bonus or to put a hold on pay increases. When money is constantly being taken away from the hard working people, the workplace is in constant volatility. Employees always want what they are entitled to and more.

Before cutting any bonuses etc., always weigh the options and see if there is any other possible way to cut something else. Cutting the people who are responsible for bringing a company what they need is a good way to cause major lack of motivation. Remember without the workers there would be no production and they are important to the overall business running efficiently.

Use Case By Case Measures

One big mistake that management makes is laying down a “blanket” rule. For instance, having harsh attendance policies are necessary, but there is always a special case that may need to be looked at. If the company has an employee who has been there for 20 years and their spouse suddenly passes, the common 3 day grieving period may not be enough.

Be willing to talk to employees and work out some sort of agreement. Taking such a hard stance on everything is likely to cause big problems. With all the “don’t do’s” that management should be aware of, what are the items that they should do? Here are just a few things that management needs to always make sure they do:

Pay attention bosses, there’s some important stuff for you here.

  • Build Background Alertness
  • Exercise Decision On A Case By Case Basis
  • Develop Proficient Cleverness
  • Take Time To Listen To Employee Concerns
  • Never Let A Situation Go Unresolved
  • Never Forget How To Get Hands Dirty And Help Out

Essentially, a manager wants to give their team some confidence. Rather than ruling with an iron fist, it is often better to not create an upheaval. Gaining the respect of the employees is not a feat that is easily won, but once it is, employers will be amazed at how the moral will increase and the productivity will upturn.

A Good Leader Is Gold

Good managers are hard to find and always have been. A manager must not only be able to balance the ability to watch production and to steady interpersonal relations, but they must also keep their eye on the bottom line. While the trends in leadership development for the current year will change, people and their problems will always remain the same. The person who can balance all of this and seem to draw respect from his employees is worth of the title of manager.
