Is A Degree In Finance Worth It Or Am I Wasting My Time?

Here’s your allowance honey. Don’t spend it all in one place!

My wife is a wonderful lady and she is also a financial guru. As far as I’m concerned, she was safe and sound doing whatever she wanted in the professional realm. There’s not a corporation out there that couldn’t use her financial expertise in their business.

I’m very thankful that she chose to stay home and help out around the house and raise our lovely kids. But I know that if she really wanted to, she could jump right back into anything in the corporate world with the financial skills she’s gained.

So yes, a degree in finance is definitively worth it when you realize and come to a greater understanding of the three main reasons this is true.

Companies Will Always Be In Need

If a company is not making money, is not a company and will not last very long. Even not for profit organizations use money as a tool to get things done. Anything that deals with money, in any form or fashion, is going to require a financial guru.

In order to be this financial person you are going to have the degree in finance, in order to properly convey your knowledge and experience. A high school diploma will not do it in most case. This is a high stakes position that requires proof that you know what you are doing.

Understand The Company Life Blood

When you have a greater understanding of the finances of the company you work for or the company that you run, you know the life that runs through that company. You have a better understanding of where resources go, how they are used, and how they are misused.

You can begin to see the finer details of what needs to be done and what can be done in that environment. You may not be in the position to make recommendations or do anything with this information. However, this gives you a special view in on the internal workings of a company and that builds your experience for the rest of your life.

Principles That Carry Over

Help! Someone filled this money arrow with helium!

All of these come together to form this base level of skills that you can use everywhere. Money, and the way it moves, is the same no matter where you go. Money comes in, money goes out, money has to be appropriated in a tractable and repeatable manner.

There isn’t a whole bunch of wishy-washy subjective information when it comes to financials. These are hard and fast numbers and methods to the numbers that, once you learn them, they are applicable no matter where you go. These are skills you work your butt off to get and then you get to keep them for life – and hopefully lots of money.

Be Degreed & Truly Understand Money

A degree in finance Is definitively worth it once you realize and have confidence in the fact that companies will always be in need of these needs of those skills, that you’ll have greater understanding of how companies work and that you’ll grow skills that are useful anywhere you go.
