(This is a story about courage and freedom, what we all aim to have or already have.)
I looked out the window. Another day in “paradise.” Life seemed weird, but no it was not normal. Right now, it not being curfew, I could have gone outside, but I didn’t really want to. Bullying was against the law… supposedly. Some people in my class of 17-year-olds liked to bully me until their faces were blue; one reason I didn’t go outside. Also, my parents were not home yet.
*Ding Dong*
Shifting away from the window I went to see who was at the door. It was a food passer. Food passers give each family their meal at the scheduled meal time. Right when the food passer left, my parents came back home. Once they were all settled down, the meal was on the table and ready to eat.
“Well Ariana,” asked my mom, “how was school today?” I shrugged. “How’s the food?” asked my dad. I shrugged. “How was work today?” Both my parents shrugged. After a few more questions and a few more shrugs the meal ended. Pretty much every day is like this.
Curfew begins at 9:00 p.m. and ends at 7:00 a.m., that is when everyone wakes up and begins the daily grind. Ever since the new president was elected three- and three-quarter years ago life has been restricted. No going into some areas. No choosing of food. No ANYTHING.
In one quarter of a year, the new (at least 18-year-old) president was to be elected. One week before the election, I had my 18th birthday. Nothing much happened, my parents just congratulated me and continued with normal life. That was when I decided to run for president.
Our president and I both ran for the presidency. This was probably a dumb move. Most people were used to the new life style and even liked it, so what was my chance? In two days, I thought, I could be president. So far, I had only a quarter of the town voting for me. I tried harder, giving speeches and even holding campaigns. Soon I had a third of the town. One day I held a major speech. I told of past times when no one could hold us back, when we had a free will.
To my great surprise, many more people joined in on what I was saying, among them were even some kids who had bullied me!
“Fight for freedom, vote for me!!!!!!” I cried, ending my speech.
With those last words I won my presidency. The old president was put in jail and I changed the world for the better.
