The term means one’s experiences at a job or work. The term could include aspects of one’s hours, working conditions, ability to work, and whether one gets along with co-workers and supervisors. It is an umbrella (a broad) term, such as “family life,” which would include ideas of not merely the people that compose the family, but the experiences one has as a member of that family.
By getting additional education, one could greatly enhance one’s career and personal life. Additional education could lead to better job opportunities and salary, which in turn could be beneficial to one’s person (or family) life. One could further improve one’s career and personal life by creating long-term and short-term goals, and mapping out the steps to achieve those goals.
“Working life” is a term we seem to hear more and more, especially in conjunction with terms like “work-life balance.” The coining of the term tends to imply that people who work have a dual existence: work life or home/personal life. Perhaps the term “work-life” balance is therefore more descriptive of life experiences, since it is sometimes difficult to delineate between work and home or the personal aspects of life.

The following list are uncut and raw responses of the things this group found most frustrating in their daily lives.
Working Life
- At work I had to sit there and do nothing for three hours straight because the provider was on vacation and so I was told to come on another day and on that day the office manager got an attitude and said why are you here today you don’t work on these days.
- At work we have a promotional event on so we had to cut previous sale tickets off of all the handbags and attach new, different tickets. It is so mind numbingly boring. Also knowing that the promotion is only on for 2 days so it’s going to all have to get changed back to the way it was before is just depressing.
- Dealing with contractors at work who are not fully competent to deliver the work. Too many mistakes which should have been recognised before it came to me. The knock off at 4pm each day. I end up staying behind after 7pm to fix the deficiencies in their work – missing the kids who were in bed. It was frustrating because I’m doing a job someone else is paid for as well as my own.
- Explaining someone what to do and still they ask you to check if they did it right, its frastating cause I already told you how to do it now u still want me to tell you if its right or wrong cause how do I even know whats right and wrong
- Get my house into order. I live with two other women and it frustrates me that they can see me working to getting the house into order but they don’t help out. So, I just throw my hands up and sit down with them. They are grown women and I shouldn’t have to tell grown ups what to do.
- Having my supervisor return from vacation. There is a philosophical difference between the Regional and General Managers. The GM will decide their position on an issue prior to having all of the facts available whereas the RM will assess the situation based on information. It is difficult to interact with the GM because of the snap judgements.
- I am in charge of the bulletin at church and last Sunday my computer crashed and I could not focus on anything else other than it. The reason I was so focused is because it was my job and I failed. I was not able to produce a bulletin on that Sunday. Instead of shutting down I immediately seeked out an expert in computers and got him to hook up my new computer and instead of making the same bulletin I created a new and improved bulletin.
- I don’t think there is anything I find frustrating at home, or work or anywhere else. Living and studying in London is a whole new experience for me and I enjoy every second of it. I am allergic to pollen and start sneezing very easily if that counts as frustrating, it sure is.
- I had to create a PowerPoint for work, it was a big deal because it’s for a presentation seeking funding. It was frustrating because I had no guidance, I’m new to the company and while I was really good at coming up with a concept, I wasn’t sure if it would be a good idea and I was just nervous about the whole thing coming together.
- I had to do a french test. it was frustraiting because I find it really hard to learn and I didnt know any of the answers and I need atleast a c grade for gcse if I want to get an ebac and the job I want but im only borderline. and I hate the class im with.
- I have had to work 3rd shifts and come into my externship working 5 hours days. This can make for very long days and increase the feeing of being short tempered. This frustrates me because my true personality and core person is one that does not lose their temper and can show extreme patience in most situations.
- I quit a telemarket job a week ago because I felt I didn`t get enough profit for the effort I put in doing it. The frustrating part of it was that I myself hadn`t paid enough focus to how much salary I was getting. I kept doing my best at a job I literally hated for hardly any reward and I’ve got only myself to blame. Salary calculation system was clear yet I believed my expectation of how it should be.
- It was to convince a direct report that her view of what was expected from her is not in line with her view of what she thinks should focus on. This led to her being moved to another department more in line with what she is currently focusing on. She was not happy when told that she is being moved because of choices that she made, despite my advice and guidance. So it was hard for me to listen to her arguing against this when my view is that she put herself in this position.
- My job gives me no clear guidance as to how to do anything. I am very new and have had no training and had to figure out how my role affects the office on my own. I am open to challenges and enjoy using my brain power to figure things out, but a bit more guidance would be nice to help me learn how to perform to my full potential a little bit quicker.
- On top of my own work to do, I had to also complete the work of my co-workers just because they did not get it done. My shifts are not long enough to get everything done that needs to get done without the help of others, but no one else I work with seems to have the desire to get things done.
- One of the most frustrating things to me is getting some colleagues of mine to accept my idea even when they do not have a personal clue how to solve a problem. It was frustrating to me because it was clear it would work and nobody challenged it but nobody followed it. After one month it was implemented as a new idea.
- Past few days I have been partners with another student who’s mind is not quick and intelligent. I’m frustrated on how he does not contribute to the work and when there is a problem with a not useful variable he uses it in his equation which does not fit the formula. I help because I enjoy doing it but I always prefer to work with someone same or higher skill than me so we can solve in different and complex ways where I can learn from.
- Recently, I was filling out an online application with “supplemental” questions asking to give examples of situations where I improved the workplace efficiency. Although I knew this had happened more than once in one particular job, it took me a while to come up with answers. I seriously considered calling a former workmate to ask them for help.
- Showing and telling my co-worker how to do something and whom to call if there was any problems during her shift, to then come back in the next morning and find out she did not do anything how I explained it to her to do. Just did it the way she though was easier.
- The most frustrating thing at work lately is the lack of direction from management and employees running the show. No control by supervisors or management. some days its a free for all, hate it. I strive to do my job with out picking at others and serve customers with fully and expect that of those I work with.
- The most frustrating thing I have had to do was accept that I wasn’t referred for a job opportunity that could have really helped my future out. It was frustrating because I was just as qualified as some of the other applicants and could have really done well and more than likely the job went to a kid of someone who worked there.
- The most frustrating thing is that my dads back is hurt so he cant work on his cars and do a lot of other stuff, so I had to help with my brothers and sisters a lot more and it was hard cause my dad could not stant for to long. but he is doing better now and can walk and go to work but he still hurts a lot.
- The most frustrating thing i’ve had to deal with involved account management at work. at my job, we don’t do it – just sell and say “bye bye”, which is relatively new to me. well, we’ve been getting a lot of cancellations as of late because of the underperformance of our account managers. it’s frustrating just because I lose great customers (although i’m not affected commission-wise) who in turn look at me to help when there’s nothing I can do.
- The most frustrating thing I’ve had to do in the past few days at work was tutor students writing Lab Reports for a science class because I don’t know a lot about science or how Lab Reports are supposed to be structured, so it was frustrating that I was unable to help them as much as I would have liked to.
- The most frustrating thing that had happened to me in the past is when I was with this group and then whenever our teacher would ask us about our work, I am the only one answering her questions, and then whenever I did not understand or if I do not know the answer to her question, I would look at them, and ask them for help but they would just smile and won’t speak up their thoughts. it was really frustrating because they just left me there hanging, and they refuse to help me
- The most frustrating thing that I had to do in the past few days at work was to find the necessary leads for my company when I ran out of ideas/verticals. It is frustrating to keep up with the pace, given the fact that there are so many companies already put into the system.
- The most frustrating thing to me to do something I so not know why I am doing it or what the important to it, why should I do it. I need to know my roll to do it corectly. I need to be need it and to fell that I am doing something important and to be charge of something . and to be trusted not just a warm working behind the disk
- The most frustrating thing was to do tasks that were unmeaningful and not related to my usual work area. I had to do that to gain some local experience in my usual work area, but it was frustrating because I felt I was competent enough in my professional field, yet had to do these tasks to get the local experience in a new country.
- Today I was washing the dishes and I was scrubbing on a pot and a cake pan with baking soda and Ox peroxide to get the stains off. One the pot, it just didn’t work as well as I would have wanted…and on the cake pan, I scrubbed and scrubbed but then decided to stop because I didn’t know if I was taking the non stick coating off with the stains. its still not as clean as I would have liked but I had to stop.
- Trying to motivate my sister to look for a job and insurance for her family. I want her to be self-motivated, with me being a scold. But if I don’t nag her, very little seems to get done. I wish I knew the magic words to give her confidence and purpose.
