Work life balance is about drawing a line between what you do at work and what you do at home. There are people who love their jobs and make work and life the same, but the rest of us need to draw a line somewhere in order to maintain our sanity. It is important to create separation between what “life” and “work” means to you.
Do not do anything work related at home! This means not checking email and not using your phone to do work-related things. It is important that devices and mediums from your work life do not penetrate your personal life. Set aside time every day to spend with those most important with you. When speaking with your bosses, be firm about your values.
On a personal level, I spend no time doing anything work related outside of my work place. My personal life is important to me, so I spend all the time I can enjoying it. For those people who value their career over their personal lives, your personal life will likely suffer for it. There is always give and take. Do what is most important to you.
