Top Tasks in Your Suitcase after a Job Interview

I reckon most folks get all fidgety and nervous when they’re done with a job interview, kinda like when you finish the last piece of Grandma’s famous pie at Thanksgiving dinner. But hold your horses, partner! That ain’t where the buck stops.

Now, right after that life-changing 45 minutes (or was it an hour?), don’t go racing home to dive headfirst into that comforting heap of pillows you’ve been dreaming about since morning. No sirree, not until you tick off these items from your post-interview checklist. So, put on those big boy pants and listen up, ’cause I’m going to guide y’all through these top things you oughtta do post interview – just like a trail of breadcrumbs leading you outta the woods safely!

1. Give Yourself a Heartfelt Pep Talk

You might be drenched in sweat (and maybe even some fear), but that’s no time to give yourself a hard time, pal. Remember how Mama always said, “If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again”? Well, it’s true! Reflect on the questions you were asked, your responses, any hiccups you may have noticed – without beating yourself up. You gave it your all, remember?

2. Send a Heartfelt Thank-You Note or Email

Your mama wasn’t the only wise one around. Your granny probably taught ya’, “manners maketh man”. So, no more than twenty-four hours post interview, fire off an old-fashioned ‘Thank You’ note (or better yet, an email in this techy time) expressing gratitude to those kind souls who listened attentively to your life story. Make sure it’s personalized too – don’t send the same copy to everyone involved! It shows thoughtfulness and can leave a lasting impression.

3. Follow-Up for Feedback, if Necessary

Remember, communication is a two-way street. If you’ve been dying to know where you stand after your performance in the big dance, drop a polite message asking if they’ve had time to evaluate their candidate pool and, of course, whether there are any further steps on your part. Just ensure this isn’t too soon! You don’t want to come off as over-eager or invasive.

4. Assess and Adjust

Post-interview reflection is as crucial as preparing for it. Make note of strengths, weaknesses, questions you wished you asked… you name it! Then, use these notes as tools for growth, honing those skills that could’ve used some polishing. Keep learning!

5. Move onto the Next One

It might be tough to divert your attention after pouring all this into one shot, but life’s a marathon, not a sprint. Apply all you learnt from this round, brush off the dust (metaphorically) and gear up for the next battlefield. Always keep an active job search strategy in place!

Alright then, youngbloods. These were my tips on what to do after shaking hands post interview. Remember, rejection is but one step away from acceptance – don’t let it deter you from chasing your dreams. You’re a hardworking individual, and I have faith in ya’, like how the Lord trusts us with every sunrise. Keep grinding, friends!
