Become a wannabe Youtube person and just start putting stuff out there and read and care about every single comment. Okay, okay, that’s silly. But it certainly helps. Trust me, I know.
Vulnerability pretty much – and I guess the reason you’d want to do this is so it would eventually build up confidence, self-worth and the ability to manage risk. No one wants to just be vulnerable to be vulnerable. Usually it’s to counteract the hardened heart or introverted/stubborn/mean-guy/gal persona that you may have picked up or been described as over time.

So, with that in mind, that your ultimate goal is to be a better person and maybe get along with people a little bit better, being vulnerable can be very useful in that you are setting yourself up to not necessarily make mistakes but to have the room and the actions that you do to notice growth, to notice things that are outside of your realm of comfort or the patterns that you’re used to.
Because if you keep just doing the same exact things that you’re comfortable with and that you’ve done all your life, that’s not growth. You’re staying the same height in the proverbial growth scale.
But once you start stretching out, working those muscles, running a little bit more – this is all an analogy, so bear with me – then you’ll get to that next level of ability, capability, strength, stamina and fortitude. Learning vulnerability is one of those first steps but you’ve got to put yourself out there.
You have to actively choose to not be a perfectionist. Choose not to block yourself off and wall yourself up from being wrong. Be susceptible to criticism. It’s going to happen, it’s a reality.
As a matter of fact, the true approach to coming up and implementing ideas or successful actions in the world involves three main parts of which are: the purely creative, the realistic and then the critical aspects. No one is better than the other, they’re all a necessary triumvirate or triad of implementing good – I was going to say “good ideas” but that doesn’t mean the idea is good, but the most effective approach at anything you want to try.
So if you’re going to be vulnerable, you have to be open to be creative and putting yourself out there, which immediately opens yourself up for criticism or just even constructive feedback. It’s just a reality you have to face up to. Then start seeking opportunities to do it. Stick with it.
It won’t be layers of thick skin but it will be layers of understanding and seeking the nuggets of truth that are in there and realizing that every mistake is really just an opportunity to grow and learn. That mental flip is what you’ll need to become vulnerable, or what I just call another part of the learning state.
Think about that. Open yourself up. Make a couple of mistakes here and there and know you just got a little bit better. Have a good one.
